Masturbation as Sin

Many religions, especially the Catholic Church, regard masturbation as an expression of sin. Sin is a difficult concept to understand, whether you want to accept it or not. Many Christians regard masturbation as a sin, a temptation by the devil or a weakness of the soul. This is a very glib and unhelpful categorization because it does nothing to explain why some people sin in this way and not other ways, or why some people sin in other ways but not this way. It is also a sin for people to break the windows of people whose names begin with the letter J, and the sin and temptation model is powerless to predict why people would commit the sin of polishing the bishop but not the sin of breaking specific windows.
